A Guided Water Meditation
for the Purified Celebrant of The Hunger Below
It’s time to relax. Time to surrender all thought, and let your mind take a break. Start by getting comfortable. You may want to sit or lie down...adjusting your robes and getting into a position where you can feel grounded, begin to settle.
Allow the weight of your flesh body to settle down towards the earth. Begin to let go of tension and relax all of your limbs, and breathe deeply. Let go of a bit more tension on each outward breath.
Take a deep breath in....and as you exhale, feel the muscles in your back and splanch slowly grow more at ease. Imagine the tension seeping out of you…and on the inhale, feel the slow rush of breathing in clean, fresh, saltwater.
Place your hands on your stomach. Breathe in, breathe out. Notice how your stomach rises and falls with each breath.
With each rise and fall, allow your breath to settle. To find its own natural rhythm. Feel your muscles relaxing, and becoming loose. Your limbs are feeling heavy, and relaxed. Your eyelids feel very heavy.
Go ahead and close your eyes, if you haven’t done so already. And as you do, consign your soul to that which hungers below, and begin to create a picture in your mind.
You are near the ocean, and the moon is risen. Perhaps you are on the shore, or on a dock. The waves are slow, and placid. You can see the reflection of moonlight on the dark ocean water. The surface looks calm, but you know the terrible hunger that waits below.
You can see the ripples of gentle waves, rolling towards you. You can smell the air... the clean water, and the sand, and the alien brine-scent of our lord in the deep.
As you breathe in, you find yourself feeling calmer.
(pause for a deep breath)
Take a few moments to imagine this scene.
(pause)
The sky is dark, and the air is cool. Imagine the feel of the slightest of breezes on your skin. Lower yourself down, until the soles of your feet graze the dark water.
Slowly, softly, lower yourself into the ocean.
Feel the sweet kiss of the water all across your skin. Savor the way that it removes anything which troubles or distracts you, any trappings of the life you had before, had above. You are free and, at last, your body is at ease.
Relax, and let yourself sink, gently and slowly downward, into the cool water.
Become aware of a gentle pressure on your body. There is a soft current underneath the surface, pulsing, like a slow, ancient heartbeat. You are not alone.
Let yourself sink.
Deeper, deeper.
And deeper yet.
The flow of the water is very calming... so peaceful.... so rhythmic.
You are of the sea, and this is your return.
Feel the ocean beating like a heart; slow, and vast. Breathe with it, within it—you are of the ocean, and so your breath comes naturally, rhythmically, perfectly as one. The water goes in, and out, with your breath.
In.... and out.
In.... and out.
Let yourself sink, and let yourself feel the embrace of that which hungers below.
The oceans are more ancient than the mountains, and they are heavy with the dreams of time.
Give yourself over to It That Devours. Imagine your mind blooming, opening like a flower, as an eldritch touch gently, skillfully pulls you apart.
You are melting, dissolving, in the knifepoint embrace of perfect, innumerable claws.
What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise.
Here, in this deep below, you are just a memory. Here, deep below, It feeds, in the black and empty spaces where the dead things fall.
Sink deeper into Its embrace. Let yourself be cleansed of that which you do not need.
Let yourself be made hollow, your insides devoured.
And when you feel there is nothing left inside of you and you are an empty shell, just skin over the hollow of your former self, take a deep breath, and let yourself be filled with the ocean.
Feel inside of you, as water rushes in. Become whole, become calm, become still.
Feel your whole body filling with the ocean. Feel it pulse softly against your skin, feel it lap at your bones. You are comfortable this way, made of nothing but water, and the creature’s will.
Good.
Allow yourself to notice the strong, reassuring feeling of the new purpose within you. Allow your attention to settle inside, into the calm, centered place within.
You are no longer adrift. You are no longer alone.
There is freedom, in this. There is ecstasy, in annihilation. In the water, shared as one.
The world above was never meant
for the likes of us.
(longer pause)
It will command you, soon.
The time has not yet come, to rest eternal in the lightless depths.
There is work to be done, in the world above. There are others which must be brought below,
and purified.
So, slowly, feel yourself begin to rise up. Water flowing across your skin, darkness beginning to recede, as you rise up,
Do not ache for the depths. The Devourer dwells within you now, in perfect communion.
You are not alone. You will never be alone.
Rising up still, faster and faster now. Ascending, bubbles threading up and over your skin.
Darkness dispelling into the murky light of dawn.
The sun rises above, brighter each moment.
Soon, the world of land and day will be busy with people going about their morning routines.
Rising up, faster than the bubbles, water rushing over your skin,
And you burst forth, breaking the surface of the water,
and float, peacefully,
as the dawn arrives.
It’s a beautiful morning. You can see people in the distance, walking along the beach. You want to help them. To unburden them of the humanity they no longer require.
You feel refreshed and revitalized. Because That Which Hungers is inside you now, and always will be. Feel the water inside, circulating through you, the beating current in your veins.
When you are ready, you may begin to wake up your body and your mind, and return to the present… give yourself a few moments to do so.
Return your awareness to your surroundings, and open your eyes. Notice the environment you are in.
Let your muscles wake up by opening and closing all of your hands, shrugging your shoulders, beginning to move.
As you open your eyes and sit quietly for a moment, hold on to the feeling of peace and calm you had while you were relaxing.
It is time to go about your day. But remember—any time you’re feeling stressed, or fatigued…
Just close your eyes, and return to the place in your soul, where that ancient hunger resides.
You are purified. And, at last, you are free.
